3 Reasons Why You Should Use a Recruiter to Find Your Next Job

Finding a job can be really difficult and stressful. Between applying to what feels like a million companies and patiently waiting for their responses, the task gives most people anxiety. Especially if they have worked at a career position before.

This article is dedicated to the students who have questioned their motivations, social abilities, and confidence. You have more talent, confidence, and skills than you think you do. Consider using a recruiter to help you find your next job so they can bring those talents to light.

Leave the Hard Part to the Pros

“Hiring the right talent is the most important key to growth. Hiring was - and still is - the most important thing we do." --Marc Benioff, co-CEO of Salesforce

As a job seeker, you want to do your best to convince the hiring manager that you are the best person for the job. They should feel strongly that you are going to bring value to the company if they hire you.

There is absolutely a right and a wrong way to go about doing this.

The good news is that working with a recruiter can be a lot like working with a coach. A good recruiter's goal is to help you find the job that is right for you, and teach you how to put your best foot forward.

Here are 3 reasons why you should consider working with a recruiting firm to help you find your next job:

1. Their Services Cost You Nothing

Yes, you heard that right. Recruiting firms do not cost anything to the candidate. Recruiting firms only get paid if a placement is made (in most circumstances). This means that as a candidate, you have nothing to lose and everything to gain by working with a recruiting agency.

Their goal is to help find you a job through their vast network of clients. You can continue to look and apply for jobs as you normally would. However, if you are working with a firm, let them know the jobs you want to apply to. They may already have relationships established with the company, so they can help get you an interview faster.

2. They'll Reduce the Amount of Applications you Fill Out

Recruiting firms work with dozens if not hundreds of different companies in the area you are looking to apply. When they find a good candidate (like you!) they can review their open contracts with clients to see if the client has an immediate role they can fill. If not, they are constantly reaching out to new clients daily. Finding you a job is their priority, and they will do the homework associated with that process to make your life a little easier.

One of the biggest complaints we hear from job seekers is the amount of repetitive applications they must fill out while searching for a job. “Why do they make me upload my resumé only to have me retype all of it out again in the application?” Sound familiar? We find that frustrating too.

Recruiters have established relationships with some of the companies you want to apply to. They can easily share your resumé and speak about your skills directly with the hiring manager to see if you could make a good fit. If they decide you are not the best fit for the role, you don’t have to waste your time with an application. If you are a good fit, you know that after you fill out the application you are at the very least getting an interview with the company.

On a related note, another complaint we often hear from job seekers if the lack of responses they receive from hiring managers after interviewing for a job. “The days after an interview are stressful. I wish they would just tell me either way, so I am not refreshing my email every 5 minutes.”

Just as you are working hard in your interviews to get the job, your recruiter is also working hard to place you in the position. Since they have a relationship with the hiring manager, it is easy for them to call up the manager to see how the interview went and communicate next steps with you.

3. They'll Offer Training and Other Free Resources

A recruiter will not send your resumé to a client without a very thorough review. If the resumé is missing information, has grammatical errors, or can be improved in any way, the recruiting firm will work with you to get your resumé to where it needs to be. This level of service can be applied to your cover letter, LinkedIn profile, and any other documentation you may show a hiring manager.

Additionally, firms like Agavos Group will offer one-on-one or group interview practice to help you succeed at your next interview.
